If you'd like to spend time outside with many of the creatures that live among us in their natural habitat, we suggest visiting Biscayne National Park and Everglades National Park in Homestead and Everglades Safari Park in Miami. When it comes to observing the area's exotic foliage and vegetation, the places to be are the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Vizcaya Museum & Gardens. Interesting and unique wildlife from all corners of the globe can certainly be seen at the world-famous Miami Metrozoo. Their mission is to encourage an appreciation and conservation of wildlife via 80 exhibits, presentations and educational programs. There are more than 1,000 animals from 400+ species that reside on the Metrozoo's 740 total acres. Birds, mammals, primates, reptiles and fish are the main inhabitants at Jungle Island. Bring your bathing suit if you're headed to Jungle Island though, because you won't want to miss taking a plunge on their Hippo Slide, that features a hair-raising 40-degree drop. Got a penchant for primates? Then have we got the place for you! Monkey Jungle is a safari where primates of all shapes, sizes and kinds roam about for your amusement. It's a place "Where Humans are Caged and Monkeys Run Wild" according to the staff. For those who would rather spend their time around sea creatures, the place to be is definitely the Miami Seaquarium, located right off the Rickenbacker Causeway. You'll be blown away by the sea lions, sea turtles, manatees, dolphins, killer whales at this 38-acre open-air facility. Accentuate your sense of smell and sight by paying a visit to the 35-acre Fruit and Spice Park in Homestead. They've got more than 500 varieties of fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs and nuts to enliven your nasal passages. The area's beautiful beaches are of course a guaranteed way to spend quality time outdoors.
